My Top Ten Albums of 2010

Now there weren't many good albums this year (in my opinion). You'll notice there are some big albums that were left out (Recovery, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy) but Its because I don't really listen to them anymore (lost its X-Factor) or I haven't listened to it enough to judge it (just got it for Christmas)

Number 10:
Cee-Lo Green - "The Lady Killer"
For me, this album is an instant classic. Its got that old school vibe mixed with a new school vibe. With a lead single like "Fuck You", you can't really go wrong. The album is not for everyone though. You have to know what you're getting into. But if you're familiar with Gnarls Barkley, I'm sure you'd like Cee-Lo solo.
Favorite Tracks: "Fuck You" "I'm A Fool (For You)" & "Love Gun"

Number 9:
The Roots x John Legend - "Wake Up"
I didn't really get a chance to listen to this as much as I should have but it is a very good album. I don't think people were ready for this album. I didn't hear much talk about it (except on the Jimmy Fallon Show). It just goes to show how unappreciated real musicians are.
Favorite Tracks: Honestly all of them are good. I don't know the names of them either.

Number 8:
Justin Bieber - "My World 2.0"
Go ahead and make fun all you want...But Justin Bieber (as I stated in the previous blog) did his thing this year. I cannot hate at all. Its a pretty solid album. I don't really know what else to say.
Favorite Tracks: "Stuck In The Moment" & "Baby ft. Ludacris"

Number 7:
B.o.B - "The Adventures of Bobby Ray"
The long awaited album from 2009 XXL Freshman, Bobby Ray aka B.o.B. After that long winded introduction, I want to say that I enjoyed the album, but I much prefer his mixtapes. I feel like maybe the label may have tried to mold him into something he wasn't. (damned Atlantic) Regardless, great album.
Favorite Tracks: "The Kids" "Bet I" "Airplanes ft Hayley Williams"

Number 6:
Drake - "Thank Me Later"
I started to get sick of him this year. And he wasn't as prominent toward the end of the year. But his album was really good. I liked that it wasn't all rapping because I feel like he is a better singer than rapper sometimes.
Favorite Tracks: "Up All Night ft Nicki Minaj"

Number 5:
The Roots - "How I Got Over"
I purchased this album on a whim. I had never heard a Roots album before but I was liking what I heard on Jimmy Fallon every night. So I went and grabbed a copy. It is not the album you wanna take with you on a long car ride (you will fall asleep! lol) There aren't many fast songs on there. Mostly mellow tracks. But its 5 stars in my book. Anything with a live band behind rapping is good though.
Favorite Tracks: "Dear God 2.0" & "Hustla"

Number 4:
Maroon 5 - "Hands All Over: Deluxe Edition"
I chose the deluxe edition because of the bonus tracks. I could listen to the album many times over. Not as good as "Songs About Jane" but still a better album than the last one. The bonus tracks are very much worth whatever extra money they cost. Theres a cover of Crazy Little Thing Called Love, If I Ain't Got You, and acoustic versions of some of their originals.
Favorite Tracks: "Never Gonna Leave This Bed"(and its acoustic version) "Hands All Over" "Misery (Acoustic)"

Number 3:
The Black Keys - "Brothers"
Good ol' local band The Black Keys. This was the first I had ever heard of them. I caught the Video for their lead single on VH1 Jump Start one morning and immediately went home and got their album. Just recently I found a mashup of their album and Big Boi's album "The Son of Chico Dusty" titled "The Brothers of Chico Dusty". I suggest finding that (maybe I'll upload later).
Favorite Tracks: "Ten Cent Pistol" "Howlin' For You"

Number 1 (tie):
Travis McCoy - "Lazarus"

I could listen to this album front to back over and over and over again and not get tired of it. Its that good. Its just an album full of summer, feel-good music (except for the one about Katy Perry...that ones kinda depressing) With the help of Bruno Mars & The Smeezingtons on a couple of songs, this album has become one of my favorites of all time. Good Job Travis...now whens that Papercut Chronicles 2 coming out, GCH???
Favorite Tracks: Honestly The Entire Album. Its only 40 minutes long but I love it.

Number 1(tie):
Bruno Mars - "Doo-Wops & Hooligans"
Before I even got the album, I fell in love with it. I had heard his EP and most of those songs ended up on the album. We went to the concert in Cleveland and my girlfriend claims that I am all over his dick. But hey, I just know when theres a good artist making moves in the industry. I'd rather be on the bandwagon now than jump on in a few months when he becomes huge. I can gladly say that I was on the Bruno Mars (and Travis McCoy/Gym Class Heroes and Jimmy Brooks...I mean "Drake") bandwagon first.

Asher Roth & Nottz Raw - "RAWTH EP"
Asher MuthaEffin Roth is about to make a comeback in 2011. Rawth wasn't an album (thats why i didn't include it in the list) But damn is it amazing. Production-wise...crazy. Lyric-wise crazier! I suggest you download it.

10 "Thumbs Up"s and "F-You"s of 2010

So I rarely post things anymore. I think its time to change that. I always say that no one cares what I write, but obviously that isn't true if you are reading this. I want to give some feedback on this year and some of its major players...

1. Justin Bieber - THUMBS UP - This kid did his thing this year. He brought a second coming of Beatlemania (Bieber Fever). Its nuts how bananas people went for him. And he's only 16. I think we'll be hear a lot more from J-Biebs

2. The word "SWAG" - FUCK YOU - jump off a bridge and die.

3. Kanye West - THUMBS UP - Having a dismal year in 2009 (i.e. Taylor Swift incident), Kanye rebounded and brought us amazing tracks, an amazing album, and some hilarious tweets. We have definitely not heard the last of Kanye West.

4. Bruno Mars - THUMBS UP - Probably one of my favorite findings of the year. I blogged about his EP back in March or so (before anybody knew who he was) and he has only continued to amaze me. Saw him in concert, met him, he's such a nice person...(But I give him a THUMBS DOWN for that cocaine incident back in September)

5. Black Eyed Peas - FUCK YOU! - You used to be awesome (Elephunk, Bridging The Gap, Monkey Business) now you're just like everybody else....advice...lose the girl.

6. Travis "Travie" McCoy - THUMBS UP but FUCK YOU - Been a fan since the Gym Class Heroes "Papercut Chronicles" album so its exciting to see him get the recognition he deserves. His album was solid. Probably my favorite of the year (tied with Bruno Mars) BUT...why the name change? I refuse to call you "Travie"

7. The Ohio Department of Motor Vehicles - BIIIIIG FUCK YOU! - I cannot get my car to pass the damned E-Check for the life of me..As a result, I am unable to get my plate renewed. As a result, I've gotten 2 tickets for having expired plates. As a result I want to murder gerbils.

8. Gas Prices - FUCK YOU - Although this one has only been on the rise as of lately, gas prices are set to continue to rise in 2011. At the beginning of 2010 I think we were barely paying 2.50 a gallon. Finished the year at 3.17 by my house. WTF Oil industry?!?!?!

9. Facebook & Twitter - FUCK YOU - You attract me to your sites and then waste ALL of my time.

10. Vanessa Anne Hudgens - THUMBS UP - You left Zac Efron this year. Great Job! I'm not single...but I'm sure Mildred wouldn't mind a polygamous marriage...

My New Rival

Over the past couple months (in my mind) I have developed a rivalry with Tommie Green, director of Whitewood Ent.

Its not the type of rivalry where its like "I hate your fucking guts and am completely against everything he does" It's more of an Ash Ketchum vs. Gary Oak rivalry. The fact that I know he is better than me right now..I'd like to push myself to become better. Like when I watch a video of his and tell myself "That was dope, I can make something that will blow that out of the water." And his stuff gets better and better, so I know that I'll grow as a director by learning from him.

In the meantime...I am hard at work on a new short film script that is being kept pretty quiet at the moment. But I can tell you that its a very small cast, Small budget (large for me...anything over 50 bucks is large budget for me though...lol), Its a Drama..but not a dramatic drama...more inbetween Drama and comedy but leaning more toward Drama...and Dramedy makes it sound...anyways. This short film WILL BE PICKED UP BY SUNDANCE! I can almost guarantee it.

I have a couple of Actors in mind for the Lead Actor:

First is: Aziz Ansari

I would like to have Aziz as the lead male because I think he really fits the part. I mean..you don't really know the part..but.. Hes young, good looking, and the energy I have seen Aziz portray on stage, in Parks & Rec, in films..I just feel that that is the kind of energy the character Gabriel Chase would have. So Aziz..if you stumble upon this blog and read this post...Please Consider (as well as Exec. Producing...)

The Second Actor, I went a little older: John Stamos

Thats right...THE John Stamos. It would be an honor to work with any of the guys I put on this list..but John Stamos is the man! I think that he definitely has that thing about him that would make a woman fall in love with him. But signing on John Stamos to the project would mean making the couple older. Which isn't a problem, it's just It's easier for me to write about a character 24-30 than it is for a 45-50 year old. Regardless...John Stamos, if you stumble upon this blog and decide you would like to be a part of this, don't worry I WILL FIND A ROLE!

The Third Actor is another young comedian: Donald Glover

Donald appears on the hit NBC sitcom Community every Thursday night at 8, DerrickComedy.com & Sundance feature film entry; Mystery Team (I Do Not Plug, I Am Just A Blogger)
Now I think Donald would be great for both the lead actor Gabe or the Radio Announcer Milky Ron Silk who DJs songs that conveniently set the mood for whatever is going on in the scene. But I would rather have him play the Radio announcer. I think it would just be great to have a chance to work with him.

Wouldn't it be great if those three actors all read my blog somehow and decided that they were interested???

Rap in the Rock Hall?

First off I wanna start by saying congratulations to LL Cool J, not everybody gets nominated.
Now in case you haven't heard, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame has selected Rap artist LL Cool J as one of the candidates for next year's induction. Now James Todd Smith (LL Cool J)would not be the first Rap act to be inducted. Grand Master Flash and the Furious Five was inducted in 2007 and Run D.M.C. inducted in 2009. The Rock Hall picks nominees whose first single was released at least 25 years previous, and who have made an impact on Rock & Roll.

So whats the problem you ask? People feel (and I agree with this fact and I don't) that Mr. Smith hasn't had as big of an impact on Rock & Roll as the perviously mentioned groups in the sense that Grandmaster Flash was the first "rap group", making rhymes over a disco beat. Thus, somewhat inventing rap? Then theres Run DMC who broke barriers with their Aerosmith collaboration "Walk This Way", among other things such as Heavy rock sampling and community outreach.

LL Cool J, who I believe is an amazing artist, hasn't had THAT kind of influence. BUT...he has influenced a whole generation of MC's (such as my dad).

So do I think he should have been nominated this year? No I don't, only because I think there may be some rock groups/artists that have been eligible who haven't gotten in (Rush) and even a couple other Rap artists who I think are more influential (Beastie Boys). But there is nothing that I can do because he is already nominated..so from one Mr. Smith to another...CONGRATS!!

It was brought to my attention that the Rock Hall was planning on instating a Rap/Hip-Hop wing of the museum.
I want to first off say that not only is that statement FALSE, but its bullshit also.(I looked it up and found ABSOLUTELY NOTHING ABOUT IT)

I disagree with that completely because if that's the case, country should have it's own wing. and jazz should have it's own wing. and funk should have it's own wing and blues should have its own wing. And every genre in the Rock Hall that isn't just straight up ROCK, should be in its own wing.

Rap is a derivative of rock and roll. all music started from the same place. there wasn't like two brothers and one made rock and one made rap. it all started with blues/country/jazz. I also agree with Matthew C., the Hall of Fame should be for all types of music. I feel like building a wing for Rap music, would be sort of like segregation because lest face it, rap is a predominantly black genre.

I would like to see them write a rap song, and make a lot of money on it. But, there is also Rappers with talent, who tell stories over a beautifully composed track. Those who strike controversy as to who the best actually is.

Those Who I feel ARE deserving of induction: Lauryn Hill/The Fugees, Biggie Smalls**, Tupac**, Beastie Boys, (even though it pains me to say) Lil' Wayne (because how much he has changed the Game of rap), DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince (first rap song to win a grammy), and sometime down the road...Me =)

Second, I'd like to inform everyone that filming for "Hit Me" is nearing the end

The Second best concert I've ever been to (2nd only to the N.E.R.D. show where I got to get on stage). I went with Eric (E-Swag) and Whitney. The whole week I was super excited for the whole thing. I was most excited for 88-Keys because I knew noone else was and recently I've been really feeling his music. Then Asher, then B.o.B. then Cudi..(Don't get me wrong I've got Cleveland love, support Cleveland artists but out of the four, I listen to Kid Cudi the least)

88-Keys was first. I was kinda upset that he didn't do my favorite song (Morning Wood) but its all good. 88 was rockin a huge ass backpack and in person he kinda looks like Charles Hamilton..lol He seemed kinda like he didn't have his "sea legs" during the first song or two. But then he was gettin hype. Loved the new joint he premiered ("Wake Up Call" from the NBA Live 2010 soundtrack)..I'll have to go download it after I write this. He did this dope poetry slam during his set too. I had iChatted him last week and told him to look out for me at the show and that I'd be in the front row with a sesame street hat on....wonder if he remembered.

B.o.B came out next. Still kinda upset with 88-Keys not playing "Morning Wood", I didn't expect Bobby Ray to start his set with my favorite song of his, "Mr. Bobby". B.o.B was wearing a fedora (dope), a white track jacket (it was pretty cool), and some black & gold Nike Air Pumps (super dope). It was at this time that I stated that he would be my new hero for that. He came out with such enthusiasm and I felt like I was watching a black fraternity step show. The back up singers were on point. For "Voltage" he brought out special guest Playboy Tre I believe? And the backup singers along with Bobby Ray started doing this Jackson 5-esque dance which was amazing. B.o.B seems like a really cool guy. he did this acoustic song toward the end of his set which I REALLY liked but I don't know the name of it..so if anybody knows, let ME know.

Probably my favorite of the night was Asher Roth. Started it off with the SAVED BY THE BELL THEME SONG! They get like a million cool points just for that. Then out rolls Asher in a little go-kart to perform "Lark On My Go-Kart". After a funny skit where Brain comes out with a mix cd to smoke to while Blunt Cruising, they go into the song. Asher's set was probably the most fun out of the 4. They threw fake marijuana leaves into the crowd, Boyder ran around the stage dressed up as a pot leaf, a couple Presidents* ran around stage throwing out fake money, Boyder also ran around the stage dressed up like a lion for "Lion's Roar", They pulled girls up on stage for "She Don't Want A Man" Asher dove into the crowd at one point and they stole his shoe and I would find out later that the security was just letting him get carried further into the crowd...haha.

Last but certainly not least Kid Cudi. Being a Cleveland native, Cudi had the whole place PACKED! He was saying that his whole family was there and some people he went to school with and even kindergarten. They brought out all the lights for him. It reminded me of something Kanye would have(compliment not a diss..lol)...it was SICK. Something most people don't have at their concerts. The setup was so intricate, I was expecting him to descend from the ceiling. He started off with like 3 songs that I didn't know the words to but I was still vibing along. During the show I realized that I didn't know as much Kid Cudi as I thought I did. He played one of my favorites off of the "A Kid Named Cudi" Mixtape "Cudi Spazzin'". He also announced that his album was pushed back to September 15th (I can't wait!) Premiered one of his new songs "Heart of A Lion" which was really good. I especially liked it because the video that was playing behind him. He brought out Chip Tha Ripper to do the last two songs with him "Ask About Me" and "Cleveland Is The Reason" which the latter had Dot Da Genius, who produced the track, on stage too. An amazing way to end an amazing show.

So after the show we go outside and wait by the tour bus. We didn't even know who we were waiting for. Then I saw Asher carrying a box to this van and walking to the bus so we walked over but he got on the bus. Boyder walked over and started chattin it up with E-Swag. So we all walked over (Me, Whitney, and two other guys). A couple minutes after, Asher came back out and signed autographs and took pictures with us. That was really cool. We ended up just talking to the two of them for like 20 minutes. Asher tells me that he saw the tweet that I had sent (I believe it was the one I said "@asherroth and his boys remind me of Vincent Chase and his Entourage @boyderyo @wreckineyez @brainbangley") I gave Asher one of my resume DVDs and told him to hit me up if they need a music video done or if they need another videographer or anything. And I gave Boyder & Brain one of my demo cds. Then one of them suggested letting us and us only (Me, E-Swag, and Whitney) check out his new "D.O.A. remix". But they couldn't get it working. This whole thing was like "Holy Shit! I'm just sitting here chillin with Asher Roth, Boyder, Brain, and Wreckineyez The DJ." Surreal.

What Do You Want To DO With Your Life?

Question: Damon, What do you want to do with your life?
Answer: Not this.

Right now I am finishing up my first year of college...and I fucking hated it. The only benefit was meeting some really cool people. Other than that, I think I just blew $20,000. I don't understand WHY it is so important to have a degree from an accredited institution. Someone please explain this to me...

I don't want to go to school for 4 years just to be $80,00+ in debt, have a piece of paper saying that I'm qualified to sit in a cubicle and hate my life (no offense to anyone who does that) but I CAN HATE MY LIFE AT MY COMPUTER DESK FOR FREE!

Then maybe someone wants to make the argument that "You should go to school and make contacts, its good to know people." And this is true. BUT there are plenty of far less expensive ways to meet people...

So what DO I want to do?
Well let me explain. I want to be happy doing what I love to do and eventually become famous from doing it.

Let's try this on for size...Let's say I graduate in four years from the University of My Choice with a degree in the Media Arts. I am a 21 years old fresh out of college who is $80,000+ in debt and I cannot find a job doing what I want because no one cares about my degree. They want experience and at my University, I didn't get to touch equipment until my junior year. So I SETTLE (god I hate that word) for a $15 dollar an hour job as an office filer. Every night I come home to my 1 bedroom apartment wanting to shoot myself as I cook ANOTHER can of Chef Boyardee's Beef-a-fuckin-Roni then watch Seinfeld re-runs until I fall asleep. Four months of my new job and I get a promotion. $20 an hour! OH BOY! (still wanna kill myself) I have absolutely no time to do the things I love to do like make movies and make music so my life becomes this monotonous, conformist cycle. My hair all falls out by the time I'm 30. My beard is gray by 36. I'm unhappy by..oh yeah I've been unhappy. And I won't quit my job. Oh no. Everyone always told me that I needed a stable job, I needed a degree. Well look where a degree got me...

Let's play that scenario out again..only this time I quit school. I stop going to school at the age of 19. I work a part time job to keep up with rent and car insurance and food. I am not $80,000+ in debt but only $20,000. That first year out of the University, I finished up at a community college specialty program to gain some more skills. While doing that, I saved up and bought my own video camera to start pursuing my dream of being a film director. I come home every day thinking about what ideas I can come up with to make this screenplay I am working on even better. By 25, I was able to sell my first feature length script to Universal Pictures. I am on the map. By 32 I have directed 2 films and I have all of my hair. By 36 I am married with a couple kids and I am running the entertainment industry. I am unhappy...only when I think of what would have happened if I had stayed in college.

And I'm not saying college is bad. I'm saying college isn't for me. Its my life. Let me live it.

They never went to college and look at them...I have a year under my belt think of what I can do...

He Steps Back From The Mic

So I have some bad news and some....
well some more bad news...
THEN I have some good news...

Making music is my second passion. Making movies is my first.
Therefore, this summer I am taking a break from my music to focus on my first feature film titled "Hit Me" The film will star Trey Kauffman and Joe Battaglia as two brothers who lose their jobs and become hitmen to make ends meet. The film is directed by myself and produced by the C-Town Film Factory. The Series Of Phenomenal Sounds will be cut short...(I apologize.)
Chapter 4 will not be released as a mixtape. While writing Chapter 3, I came to the realization that I am just writing songs to have songs to put out. That is NOT what I want to do. Thats NOT why I make music. I should be going for quality and instead I am going for quantity. So after Chapter 3 I will release a "Best of The Series" Which will include everyone's favorites from Jimmy Can Walk, The UC Dropout, and New York State Of Mind, and two tracks tat were supposed to be on Midwest Swang.

Ready for the good news?

Well I will be taking a hiatus for the summer. But when I finish up with "Hit Me" I will begin working on my first solo album. And there will probably be a couple more chapters in the Series Of Phenomenal Sounds...**hint hint**

A Chat With Mr. Jesty Beatz

I got the exclusive chance to talk with Jesty Beatz. Jesty Beatz is the next big thing from Northeast/Southeast Ohio. I had some questions for him

Mr. Smith: How long have you been making music?

Jesty Beatz: I’ve been making music all of my life. I remember when I was 6 I remember writing my own song. When I was 10 I recorded my first song with my sister on a cassette tape. But in terms of taking it seriously its been like 5 years.

MS: Who are some of your biggest influences in music? In life?

JB: I go through phases of music. I was probably the biggest No Limit Soldier EVER. But Prince is the best ever. I’ve got most of his records and movies and that all I want to listen to. In terms of rap… Andre 3000 is it. In terms of my life it’d probably be God, my family, my friends, and the girls I’m too shy to tell how I feel along the way.

MS: How did you get started with music?

JB: I really started in high school. That’s when Fruityloops 3 was out and all my friends used that and Cool Edit to make songs. Computer processors were slow and so the things I could do were limited but that’s when I really took it upon myself to learn how to construct a beat or a song.

MS: Did you ever have a fallback plan? Or was music the only option?

JB: Music is my only option… but I’ve always had a fall back plan no matter if I planned it or not. I’ve been blessed in everything I’ve ever tried and worked hard at. Whether it was art or basketball or whatever thing that came across my ADD mind.

MS: Haha, I think being ADD is what makes a creative person.
Which is more important, the fame, the fortune, or just making the music you love?

JB: Making the music you love tops the list. But there comes a point to where there should be a balance of all three. My primary happiness comes from making the tracks. It’s therapeutic. I’m able to express myself completely in a forum that I have created. The secondary success comes from seeing the response that I get from others. Money is funny. Money is a tool that allows you to get more accomplished. Money is a physical manifestation of work and recognition for that work. Money is a motivator. The only reason why I sometimes get caught up in the pursuit of money is because I’m conscious of my value in certain areas. As long as you’re valuable, people are going to want you to do things so that they can benefit from your value.

MS: If you could tour the world, what are the top 7 cities you would want to play in?

JB:
Athens, OH
Cleveland (once I blew up so they’ll pay attention)
Los Angeles
London
Tokyo
Australia
Honolulu

MS: How did come up with the name Jesty Beatz?

JB: My producer name was Supreme Majesty. It got shortened to Majesty. Then to Jesty.

MS: You’ve toured the country opening for various artists, what was that like?

JB: I never was 100% on tour with a particular artist. I was on my own tour and was booked as the opening act for a lot of majors. So my contact with a few of the performers was limited to just one or two days. Some of them have resulted in friendships that have lasted for several years. It was crazy seeing Mack 10 rock out to my set. Going to Denny’s with Mike Jones when he was #1 on the charts was surreal. That’s the word. Surreal. Imagine rapping in your dorm room… then the next year being on tour with people you’ve looked up to.

MS: That sounds like a dream come true. i would love to be doing that. How did you get opportunities like that?

JB: The power of the grass roots! Also a friend of mine named Jackie helped a lot. It just stemmed from having the confidence in your music and being able to show the right person at the right time.

MS: Wow, I need to step my game up... Can you tell us about the projects you are working on now?

JB: I’ve got a lot of projects going on! I’m working on songs with my good friend Aaron Michael Cox. I’ve got things in the works with my friend Jason Caesar. I’m currently working on “The Plot to Save the World” soundtrack. It’s a conceptual album that will coincide with a short film project that I’m working on. Its pretty insane. I’m basically just experimenting with sound and technique, and having fun breaking the “rapper rules.”

MS: I'm really feeling the new stuff. One of my favorite songs of yours is “Yellow.” It reminds me of a John Lennon song. What was the inspiration for that song?

JB: Haha, as with most of my songs lately, this song is about a girl. Basically, I was talking to this girl and a lot of my friends were like, “no! Don’t mess with her, man.” I wasn’t really listening to their warnings because she was drastically different when she was around me. She ended up doing some stupid stuff and I was hurt. I figured out how I wanted the song to go in like 5 minutes in the shower… Then went downstairs and recorded it. I did it in one take and actually got choked up while recording it. You can definitely hear it when it happened.

MS: Yeah, I had to go back and listen to it and you CAN tell. So, are there any major label record deals in Jesty Beatz’ future?

JB: What is a major label? Haha there are major things in the works. I’m working on distribution right now. I’m having so much success as an indie without industry interference, and I’m trying to keep my process the same while reaching more people.

MS: Anything else you want the people to know?

JB: Support underground artists!

So as you probably already know, I am one for very ambitious challenges.
My 27 song mixtape that came before this (The One & Only - http://www.mediafire.com/?n2nyizol2jj ) was not enough for me. I said to myself, "How can I top that?".....
Then it hit me one day like diarrhea after a bad mexican platter (actually I think thats what happened...) "I should do a Themed mixtape...with all Kanye West Instrumentals!"

No, no, no silly boy. That isn't enough! How about another themed mixtape. Instrumentals from all Midwest Artists!...

Simply not challenging enough.

How about Drake...YES! A Drizzy Drake themed mixtape....

Thats where most people would say that their plate was full. But not me.

Let's go ahead and add a New York artist themed mixtape....

And if that isn't ambitious enough, finish them all by the end of the quarter (June 12th). "Piece Of Cake" is what I say to that. I'll even do you one better. I'll finish them all a week before the end of spring quarter. New Mixtape?

So I have been thinking a lot lately about what I want my next mixtape's theme to be. And I have narrowed it down to two choices. either a mixtape comprised of beats from all midwest artists (Chicago, Detroit, Cleveland, St. Louis, Minnesota...etc.) and called "Midwest Swang."
The other would be comprised of all Kanye West beats(minus the ones from 808s) titled either "College Kid Mentality" or "UC Dropout" or "College Themed Title" lol at the last one.

Anticipated Albums of 2009: Asher Roth

2009 is going to be a year of great music (minus Lil Wayne's rock album)
I'm going to list out the one's that I am looking forward to over the course of a few blogs.

The first to arrive is going to be Asher Roth's Asleep In The Bread Aisle Releasing April 20th 2009.
I first got hooked on Asher after listening to his song "Death To A Milli." Asher was featured in XXL Magazine's Freshmen class of 2009. Singles from this album include I Love College which has been buzzing around campuses since January. And Lark On My Go-Kart which is the intro track on the album. With only 17 days left until the album drops, my patience is getting smaller and smaller. I find myself listening to his mixtape The Greenhouse Effect vol. 1 at least once a day. I feel terrible right now. I have a bunch of work to do but I can't bring myself to do it. Last weekend was our show in PA and it was a mass amount of fun. Aside from me forgetting the words to the birthday song (kind of horrible on my end) the performance went alright. There wasn't that many people into it. But the birthday girl had fun and that's all that matters.

It feels like I have strep throat tho.... NOT GOOD!

The Fourth Mixtape in the series is complete and will be uploaded to the web later on today. Its like 6 am and I'm still up doing shiz. We got a show tonight in PA and I should really sleep some before we go. I really need to do some stuff though. Like stuff essential to us having a good show and a good night. Shamakakaka is similar to Soulja Boy's 'Yah!'. It's a word that you use when your tolerance has maxed out. It's a combination of 'Shut Up!', 'Get Out Of My Face!', & 'I'm Through With This Matter!'. It originates from A WhiteWood Entertainment video starring Dave Chaney titled 'Shamakakaka'. The word started in Detroit and because of the video going viral, has spread nation wide.
This first time I watched this, I could not stop laughing. Whitewood Entertainment has some other really good videos too.

Chuck Mangione - Feels So Good

I saw an episode of King Of The Hill a couple weeks ago where they had a pest problem at the Mega-Lo Mart and Dale was hired to take care of it. Turns out it was Chuck Mangione, the 70s Jazz Flugle Horn player. He played this one song called "Feels So Good" so after I watched the show, my roommate and I looked up the song. Its been 3 weeks and I can't get that song off of my head. It really does make you feel so good. And who can resist a trumpet? No one...thought so. check out the video

As the title of the hit new song from upcoming artist Asher Roth states, I, indeed do, love college. Except for all the work, college is a great place. I just stayed up all night "studying" for a Psychology test I have in a couple of hours. I instead created this new blog. I'm sure I'll be back later today with another post.
